First impressions count To open the book and find on the inside cover music notation that just didn t scan 6 8 metre with sometimes 4 sometimes 7 beats in a bar whatever repelled me from the outset As many of my friends are musicians I just can t give this book to any of their children Not Michelle Worthington s fault presumably, but memo to the publisher PLEASE remedy this before further reprints It meant I could barely enjoy the story or other illustrations which are no doubt pleasant Why do people think it doesn t matter to have dodgy amateur renditions of music manuscript It proves readers do judge books by covers.I was so put off by this that I tossed the book aside Then rescued it next day to see, yes, the illustrations are great, the words fine, the Australian wildlife very suitable to send to international friends It s a lovely book for kids But then I turned the last page and the stilted music with unwitting syncopation reappeared on the back inside cover Who do I know who doesn t read music and won t be offended by this

A bush band strikes up a wild rhythm each night as the sun goes down and not just any bush band but one with animal members, all from Australia Koalas and kangaroos though not, unfortunately, with didgeridoos , crocodiles and cockatoos yep, and heaps get ready, setty and play all through the night until morning light.Gorgeous illustrations by acclaimed wildlife artist, Sandra Temple.
