La Gloire du Paria (The Glory Of The Pariah) tells us the story of Marc and Bernard, a gay couple living in a time when HIV-AIDS first started to create panic around the world, particularly concerning the gay community.

Marc, while being half Bernard's age, seems to be the stabilizing force in the relationship, taking care of his partner and actually understanding and indulging Bernard's erratic needs.

And I say this because, being from an older generation, Bernard lived sexually repressed most of his life, hence why he can't be completely happy with Marc, feeling the need to pretend that what they have isn't that serious and having little escapades, where he visits all the places he used to visit as an unattached gay man in the closet doing the rounds.

I must say I was a bit disappointed with this book. It seemed to want to touch a real issue and do it justice, with some really good points about homosexuality, AIDS and society in general, but it didn't manage to do that.

Maybe if it was a full-length novel that would have been achieved.
