Picked this up at a remarkable gay bookstore in London called Gay s the Word They had a fun assortment of vintage books, and I wanted to get a taste of lesbian literature Back In The Day This collection did not disappoint the stories are surprising, dark, and funny, both an interesting look at 1980s queer literary culture and entertaining in their own right. The collection was made up of detective and sci fi stories, and I definitely favored the sci fi I particularly liked the story Xessex Picked this up at a remarkable gay bookstore in London called Gay s the Word They had a fun assortment of vintage books, and I wanted to get a taste of lesbian literature Back In The Day This collection did not disappoint the stories are surprising, dark, and funny, both an interesting look at 1980s queer literary culture and entertaining in their own right. The collection was made up of detective and sci fi stories, and I definitely favored the sci fi I particularly liked the story Xessex , about a deceptively gendered alien Mother Was An Alien was hilarious and striking as a work of feminist fiction Survivor chillingly evoked the nuclear concerns of the time in a way that felt a bit too real today And the twist at the end of O Captain My Captain described on the cover as the famous erotic novella was HILARIOUSLY delightful

A nice mixture of genres I think my favorite was The Gift. It made me think of the old Outer Limits television show.

This is another book I found second hand at Gay s the word bookshop I d read Katherine s Kate Delafield detective series and loved that but this was the first short story collection of hers I came across My main reason for getting it was that it had a Kate short story in it But I ended up loving the others evenThe others were a mixture of sci fi, post apocalyptic, horror, supernatural stories that were just brilliant There were a few that were VERY dark which were just wonderful The This is another book I found second hand at Gay s the word bookshop I d read Katherine s Kate Delafield detective series and loved that but this was the first short story collection of hers I came across My main reason for getting it was that it had a Kate short story in it But I ended up loving the others evenThe others were a mixture of sci fi, post apocalyptic, horror, supernatural stories that were just brilliant There were a few that were VERY dark which were just wonderful The theme for all the stories were LGBT people and sometimes aliens Having read SO much scifi over the years but so little queer scifi it was wonderful to have stories that included characters like me and like people I know I always think that inclusion of LGBT people in stories just makes them see that muchreal, as it reflects the real world, not some sanitised version of it This was just a brilliant collection and really made me want to track down her scifi trilogy very soon

This is aninteresting collection of short stories It technically falls into the LGBT genre, which in my mind isn t really a genre Books and stories that feature LGBT characters can generally be categorized as a different genre, and the fact that the characters are LGBT is merely incidental That said, these stories are mostly science fiction, but several aren t, and the only thing that really holds the collection together is the inclusion of at least one gay or lesbian character per story This is aninteresting collection of short stories It technically falls into the LGBT genre, which in my mind isn t really a genre Books and stories that feature LGBT characters can generally be categorized as a different genre, and the fact that the characters are LGBT is merely incidental That said, these stories are mostly science fiction, but several aren t, and the only thing that really holds the collection together is the inclusion of at least one gay or lesbian character per story That is NOT the interesting part of this collection The interesting part is where the genre stories go For example Space vampires Yep It goes there And it works It s really freaking weird, but Forrest is a pretty good writer, and she makes it work

A good many of the stories in this book were science fiction, which I absolutely can t stand Even the classic O Captain, My Captain is sci fi, which made it hard for me to read And calling her vampire Drake, as in Dracula That was just silly The only story I actually liked was the Kate Delafield one, which she also published in one of the Out For Blood anthologies.

A short story collection by Katherine V Forrest.Once upon a time, we were all children and short stories taught us how to read fiction And in the hands of a true storyteller, they can still take us back to the very heart of why we read.

A collection of short stories, including one with Kate Delafield They area mix of crime, lesbian erotica, and straight fiction, done with her usual good writing.
