A masculine comic Filipino book It is drawn in black and white It is about street guys and even if one of the protagonists is called Gwapoman translation handsome man all of the characters here look like ordinary guys you find in some side streets in Manila The emphasis is on the word ordinary because they guys here actually look like those you will not feel safe if they happen to sit beside you inside the bus while you are commuting around midnight in Manila. The story revolves around some syndicate operations with two protagonists villains depending on which side you are with in the characters of Gwapoman and Alas Gwapoman, however, gets the juicier role and what I enjoyed in his character is his vulnerability s human being In the same fashion as the superheroes in Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon s Watchmen 3 stars , they have limits especially on the physical aspects This makes the comic book realistic and plausible. The only negative comment I have is the many typographical and grammatical errors as if the whole work did not pass through a competent editor However, the poetic narration of Aaron Felizmenio is something that offset this weakness There were times that I thought I was reading poems while going through the narration per frame Amazing use of Tagalog Overall, I liked this book 3 stars I look forward to reading the next issues Thanks, Aaron Good job.

There are two reasons why I bought the Meganon comics edition of Gwapoman 2000 Unang Libro First is that it is written and illustrated by Aaron Felizmenio, whose artistic style in Minkowski Space Opera truly awed me The second reason is this particular edition s cover, though not the one displayed here in Goodreads looks badass It is reminiscent of another badass illustrator, Ashley Wood, the one who is responsible for the dark art of Metal Gear Solid. Those are the only things good about Gwapoman 2000 because the content doesn t have anything good to offer Felizmenio s artistic craft is promising but inconsistent that it truly affects the reader s appreciation towards the material Although that is fairly understandable since this is a collected edition where the author have written the chapters at different times. What is worse is that Ang Huling Baraha has a very incoherent plot that I kept on extrapolating what is really happening in the panels From what I have read, this kid Alas frees a veteran vigilante ish Gwapoman and later teams up with him to do a particular mission, only to find someone else Margaux I may be totally wrong here mind you The abuse of flashbacks makes the story too convoluted to follow The chapters are too disjointed you might think that Felizmenio only wrote what random adventure he has in mind. The writing is as bad as how the story is told The dialogues are uninspired and rife with loopholes, contributing to the lack of cohesiveness in the story There are times that the script is too random that I didn t bother understanding it You feel that Felizmenio tries to give unique voices to each character but he fails to do so unfortunatey The narrative boxes reflect his shot at doing prose but they are shallow and empty For someone who has much potential as Aaron Felizmenio, he really needs a writer partner. And I have not said the worst thing in Gwapoman 2000 it is lack of editing I just wonder HOW the material got published with all the misspelled words, grammatical errors and overlooked typos Lame and shameful.I still earnestly urge you to buy this book though because personally, I never abandoned my trust with the local indie komiks industry And from our support they can improve their craft.
