This is a beautiful book Gorgeous pictures and lovely writing A sweet story, not as melancholy as it first appears A spare, short story that manages to convey a lot I appreciate how the aunt seems to be respectful of Jemima s feelings Highly recommended for readers listeners who enjoy books about orphans, the seasons the changing seasons, reassuring stories about temporary goodbyes, places to live that offer a variety of outdoor experiences such as gardening and lake swimming, evocative illustrations. Thanks to Goodreads friend Hilary for letting me know about this book Read on Open Library Thank goodness for this site I think I will be reading many books on it I can t believe I m as excited as I am about reading e books.

4.5 stars This is such a lovely book, the pencil illustrations are beautiful Jemima lives with her aunt and has spent the summer in a house in the country Winter is coming and they are leaving Jemima goes for one last walk to say goodbye to the places she loves The illustrations show Jemima at the start of winter mainly in black and white and then you see Jemima in summer in colour I love the way it showed how different the same place can feel at different times of the year and the sadness we can feel to leave a place we love At the end we find out view spoiler they hope to return which is really nice because I suspect Jemima is an orphan who needs some security and has loved living in this place hide spoiler
