Mark Wilkerson s biography of Pete Townshend is a detailed, mostly chronological account It is written in the standard, time honoured rock biography format of relying almost entirely on quotes taken from various publications and live shows It is a format that I find frustrating because it seems to lull the author into thinking he doesn t have to discuss anything that he is writing about The author presents the facts as quoted by whoever even when they sometimes contradict other facts Mark Wilkerson s biography of Pete Townshend is a detailed, mostly chronological account It is written in the standard, time honoured rock biography format of relying almost entirely on quotes taken from various publications and live shows It is a format that I find frustrating because it seems to lull the author into thinking he doesn t have to discuss anything that he is writing about The author presents the facts as quoted by whoever even when they sometimes contradict other facts without analysis it s a very dry style of writing and not very enjoyable For instance, Townshend often comes across as an unpleasant character through the facts , but nothing is made of this within this lengthy biography The book s strength comes through the depth of knowledge research of the topic The author also avoids the trap of many biographies of stars of this generation by providing a detailed review as recently as 2007 Interesting but hard work to get through

My husband first brought this book to my attention when we were shopping in a local music store a few years ago In the local author section, there were two copies of Amazing Journey by Mark Wilkerson My fianc said he was interested in reading the book, so I bought it for him as a gift Needless to say, I read the work after he finished it The book is well written and articulate, and I am amazed at how much research the author incorporated into his work Before I read Amazing Journey, I m My husband first brought this book to my attention when we were shopping in a local music store a few years ago In the local author section, there were two copies of Amazing Journey by Mark Wilkerson My fianc said he was interested in reading the book, so I bought it for him as a gift Needless to say, I read the work after he finished it The book is well written and articulate, and I am amazed at how much research the author incorporated into his work Before I read Amazing Journey, I must admit that I knew nothing about Pete Townshend aside from the fact that he was in The Who Afterward, I gained a great wealth of knowledge on the musician, his solo projects, and The Who I highly recommend Amazing Journey to anyone who is an avid fan of Pete Townshend, or someone who is just getting to know him
